Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poe's Murders in the Rue Morgue is a hidden-object adventure game based upon one of the most famous detective stories. Giving a twist to Poe's short story, the game follows the steps of C. Auguste Dupin, the famous French detective, as he tries to solve, with your help, the murder of Madame L'Espanaye in the Rue Morgue.
Together with your amateur detective friend, Dupin, you start off the investigation through the streets of Paris to collect clues and any piece of evidence that could help you solve the mystery. You need to pay special attention to the cursor changes as these will indicate interactive spots or areas of interest. As in most hidden-object games, you need to explore different locations and manage to get access to locked areas. Most of the tasks involve collecting objects, deciphering enigmas, and unlocking complex lock mechanisms. Objects that may be of use will be kept in your inventory, and some items will need to be combined with others to interact with a scene.
Hidden-object scenes are numerous and are marked by sparkles. These present the usual mechanism and are not really hard to solve. Objects may be either concealed in the environment or hidden inside drawers, vases, or other containers. The fact that the scenes are extraordinarily detailed helps a lot, but in case you fail to find some of the items on the list, the hint button can help you locate them right away. There is a number of mini games as well, putting to the test your intuition and logic. more
